Dance Routes
Dance Routes was founded  in  1997   by  its  Artistic Director, Dr. Rekha Tandon, an Odissi performer, choreographer and researcher, and her partner, Michael Weston, a musician and filmmaker, for experimentation, research and education in Indian classical dance.
Choreographic works have included pieces created for both performance and film, using multicultural literary and musical resources, which retain the criteria of dance being used as a means of dialogue with divinity.
Educational initiatives have included workshops both in the UK and India that explore the relationship between dance, yoga and the cultural environments which nurtured these classical traditions.
A recent initiative was ' The Raghurajpur Lila Project ' which addressed the issue of self-sustenance for the rural performing arts in India by reshaping them for contemporary audiences.
It has also produced a documentary video film “Odissi – a dance of sculpture” tracing Odissi’s roots in tantric ritual through medieval temple architecture and sculpture.
