This poem, written by a 16th century mystic poet called Surdas, describes a state of yearning experienced by the young milkmaid Radha for the beautiful Shyama/Krishna. The love of Radha for Krishna, a popular theme in the Indian arts, symbolises the desire of the individual soul for God.
